Important Information About Opening A New Account
To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.
What This Means For You
When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your drivers license or other identifying documents.
Identity theft is a criminal activity where an individual wrongly obtains and uses another person’s personal data without their knowledge and consent to commit fraud.
- No one from BankEast will ever telephone you and request your account number, PIN, or passcode. If you receive such a call, please notify us immediately.
- Do not provide your personal information to telephone callers, over the Internet or through the mail.
- Never leave your checkbook, wallet or other financial information unprotected.
- Do not use an unsecured mailbox to send or receive mail. Use an official U.S. Postal Service collection box.
- Have your mail held by the U.S. Postal Service if you are going out of town.
- Follow up with vendors if you do not receive statements or bills at the usual time.
- Carry only the identification and credit or debit cards that you need.
- Create passwords for your credit cards, telephone accounts and bank accounts.
- Shred receipts and other documents that contain personal information rather than throwing them away. Shred credit offers and other solicitations that you receive in the mail.
- Avoid creating passcodes that could be easily determined by others (your birth date, mother’s maiden name, etc).
BankEast helps prevent identity theft by asking appropriate questions to identify a caller, or asking for proper ID when an unknown person is requesting account information.
